Summary:
Line following sensor consisting of 8 IR LED/phototransistor pairs with digital output.

The QTR-8RC reflectance sensor array is intended as a line sensor, but it can be used as a general-purpose proximity or reflectance sensor. The module is a convenient carrier for eight IR emitter and receiver (phototransistor) pairs evenly spaced at intervals of 0.375" (9.525 mm). To use a sensor, you must first charge the output node by applying a voltage to its OUT pin. You can then read the reflectance by withdrawing the externally supplied voltage and timing how long it takes the output voltage to decay due to the integrated phototransistor. Shorter decay time is an indication of greater reflection. This measurement approach has several advantages, especially when coupled with the ability of the QTR-8RC module to turn off LED power:

  • No analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is required
  • Improved sensitivity over voltage-divider analog output
  • Parallel reading of multiple sensors is possible with most microcontrollers
  • Parallel reading allows optimized use of LED power enable option

I have placed an order for this component. Order no: 130416....Before the delivery, would you mind just checking the component to be sure about it's accuracy ? The headers aren't soldered.Can the type of header pins that is used for LCD be used with this one?

It came from Pololu, so we have no doubt about its accuracy. Male headers are included with the product. User have to solder that.

i have purchased this product....can I use only 3 sensors out of 8 ...? if three sensors can be used, then am i supposed to make any change except the following change.... sensor_num=3 (in stead of 8)and pin no. declaration for sensors (for 3 digital pins only)....and do i need to make change to library or to anything else?

will this sensor be able to detect black line if the line is 8 cm wide(the width of the black line covers up all the 8 sensors)?
or, the line should be so thin that covers only 1 sensor....?

Line must not be thinner than the distance between two consecutive sensor pairs. That's it.

Motors being supplied with an external 10-11 V power,it runs quite faster...
If I set a command for motor base speed or motor maximum speed (motor_pwm_speed as 150 or something like this), then should I keep the external motor power source (which is 10-11V)...??? or in this case it just should be connected to Arduino (to any MotorPower pin) ?????

External source must be always used depending on the voltage rating of your motor.

Is it always required and better to use motor driver shield than only motor driver IC? I mean, can't we make it possible with just an L293D IC for a line follower?

Yes. Why not? Shield makes Arduino coding and circuitry easier. That's it.

qtr 8 rc(2012) sensor er 8 ta sensor 1,2,3......,8 ebhabe mark kora achhe.... but online e dekhlam ager model gulo te 0 theke 7 porjonto mark kora chhilo....
tahole ki amar sensor e sensor value 0 er jaygate 1, 1 er jaygay 2..ebhabe hobe??? and accordingly line position value o from 0000 to 7000 er poriborte 1000 to 8000??? im kinda confused with this...
