Hay Rahul.iub, if you need a burning laser ..... Buy a Samsung DVD writer and open it ! You will find a high power (Red & IR combined) Laser Diode There would be 3 pins on it (CD,DVD & Ground) CD pin for IR (max 2.2 V) DVD pin for RED (max 3.2 V) You would need to gather Collimator & Optics (Lens) from other sources ( maybe form a cheap laser- that's what I did) Also, make a current limiter circuit to drive or current will keep increasing when Laser Diode heats up and eventually avalanche breakdown will occur ! Good Luck ! P/S: I burnt a lot of matches in 3-4 seconds and was able to lit 2 cigarettes with lots of difficulties & my one died when I applied 4V to lit the 3 cigarette ! One more thing : NEVER EVER LOOK INTO THE LASER DIODE, OR YOU WILL BE BLIND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT to see IR use your cellphone camera at a hither angle or use this IR Receiver Diode http://www.techshopbd.com/product-categories/light/289/ir-receiver-diode-techshop-bangladesh it will give 0.7-0.8 volts when IR is shine upon it ! Q: Just bough one ! It's kind of like the laser beam you will see on price tag scanner/barcode scanner used in super shops. Better than toy lasers available in local market. Because this one actually has an automatic power controller and photodiode feedback which I can assure you because I disassembled it to check. So brightness is almost constant within operating voltage range for any voltage . Operating at low voltage such as 3 volt it draws current around 28.7 mA and at 4.5 volt it draws 18.9 mA due to APC which maintains the power level nearly the same . You can't get a DOT from this laser only LINE and by focusing the width of the line can be varied, not lenght . The projection angle of the line beam is 100 degrees. Tough metal body also keeps laser diode cool, I am expecting a longer life from this laser. Typical application : leveling, measuring height, security or simply exlporing it. Correction/Updates : Do make DOT instead of line, First unscrew the focusable lens. Now hold the metal front firmly & `twist the black plastic thread in counter clockwise to unscrew it.
