Description of Sanwa CD800A Digital Multimeter

The Sanwa CD800A Digital Multimeter is designed for accurate measurement of electrical parameters commonly encountered in testing and troubleshooting work. It supports DC and AC voltage and current measurement along with resistance, capacitance, frequency, and duty cycle, allowing a wide range of electrical and electronic checks using a single device. The 4000-count LCD display ensures clear numerical readings, while the stable sampling rate provides consistent measurement results during use.

Continuity testing with an audible buzzer and diode test functionality make it suitable for circuit inspection and component testing. High input impedance helps maintain measurement accuracy, especially in voltage testing applications. The meter operates on standard batteries, offers long operating time, and includes fuse protection for safe operation. Its layout and control design allow straightforward handling during routine electrical testing, repair work, and laboratory use.

Safety Notice

Before using this digital meter, please read this instruction manual carefully and thoroughly. This manual explains how to use the product safely and correctly. Keep it with the product for future reference whenever necessary.

Instructions listed under the heading "WARNING" must be strictly followed to prevent accidental burns or electrical shock.

The following symbols may appear on the multimeter, in this manual, or on related accessories. Understanding these symbols is important for safe and correct operation.

Symbol Description Explanation
Caution / Warning Indicates important safety information. Failure to follow instructions may result in damage, injury, or incorrect measurement.
Dangerous Voltage Warns of the presence of hazardous voltage that may cause electric shock. Avoid direct contact.
DC (Direct Current) Indicates direct current measurement or DC voltage input.
~ AC (Alternating Current) Indicates alternating current measurement or AC voltage input.
Ω Resistance Symbol for resistance measurement in ohms.
Continuity Indicates continuity test mode with audible buzzer.
➤ ◄ Diode Test Indicates diode test mode.
Ground Indicates grounding or earth connection reference.
Double Insulation Device is protected by double or reinforced insulation; no earth connection required.
Low Battery Indicates the battery voltage is low and needs replacement for accurate readings.

Start-Up Inspection

  1. Make sure that no low battery indication appear in the display.
  2. Never use meter if the meter or test leads are damaged or broken.
  3. Check continuity of test leads & fuse.

No display may suggest that a battery be exhausted.

Voltage Measurement (DC / AC)

  1. Set the FUNCTION switch to “V” and use the SELECT button to choose DC or AC.
  2. Connect the red and black test probes to the measurement points.
    • For DC voltage, connect the black probe to the negative side and the red probe to the positive side.
    • For AC voltage, connect both probes across the source.
  3. Read the voltage value on the display.
  4. Remove the probes when finished.

Notes: Readings can be unstable if the leads are open. Accuracy is specified for sine-wave signals in the 40–400 Hz range.

Resistance Measurement

  1. Set the FUNCTION switch to the resistance (Ω) position and select the correct range with the SELECT button.
  2. Touch the red and black probes to the component or circuit to measure resistance.
  3. Read the resistance value on the display.
  4. Remove probes when done.

Note: Do not apply voltage to the terminals during resistance measurement. Shield the test object if noise may affect the reading.

Frequency / Duty Cycle Measurement

  1. Set the FUNCTION switch to the Hz / % position.
  2. Use the Hz / % button to choose frequency or duty cycle mode.
  3. Place the red and black probes on the conductor being measured.
  4. Read the displayed value.
  5. Remove the probes after measurement.

Note: The HOLD function does not operate in frequency mode.

Current Measurement (DC mA / AC mA)

  1. Set the FUNCTION switch to “mA” and select DC or AC with the SELECT button.
  2. Connect the meter in series with the load in the circuit.
    • For DC current, black probe goes to the negative side and red to the positive side through the load.
    • For AC current, connect probes in series with the load.
  3. Read the current measurement on the display.
  4. Remove probes once done.

Important: Never apply voltage directly to the current terminals.

Diode Test and Continuity

  • Diode Test: Select the diode mode and place the black probe on the diode’s cathode and the red probe on the anode. A forward voltage drop appears on display.
  • Continuity Test: In continuity mode, the meter emits a buzzer if resistance between probes is low.

Applications

  • Electrical installation and maintenance
  • Electronics testing and repair
  • Laboratory and educational use
  • Industrial inspection and troubleshooting
  • Home and DIY electrical diagnostics
